Why monthly goals?
A month is long enough to start establishing a habit but short enough for you to adapt your goals to life as it happens. Monthly reflection helps you be intentional about which habits still make sense as they are, which ones you need to adjust, and which ones you’re ready to let go of.And there’s a certain freedom to starting over each month! Whether you’re trying out a new habit or getting back to one you didn’t quite nail before, it doesn’t have to be demotivating to start at zero. The fresh start is a feature, not a bug!
Why 25 days?
It’s a nice sweet spot between consistency and flexibility—enough days to feel like the habit is actually a habit, while allowing for some days where life just gets in the way.And yes, different months will give you different amounts of wiggle room, but that's just real life—and your goals can reflect that.
What kinds of habits is 25 Wins for—and not for?
The 25 Wins system is meant to be especially helpful when you’re establishing new daily habits, rather than tracking ones that you’ve already integrated into your life. If a habit is a little outside of your comfort zone and not automatic yet, it’s probably a good candidate!In most cases, I wouldn’t recommend using this for things that really do need to be done every day, like taking essential medication, or habits where even one day off could make it very difficult to pick back up, like quitting smoking.I’ll share some more specific suggestions for 25 Wins-style habit goals soon!
What if I have an extra busy month or a lot of travel coming up?
Adjust your habit goals accordingly—this is where that monthly planning comes in handy! Maybe your usual "cook dinner at home" goal becomes "have a fruit or vegetable with every meal" when you're traveling.
What if I don't hit 25 days in a month? Does that mean I failed?
Nope! It means you now have more information about yourself, your life, and how your habit goals fit. Take time to reflect on your experience and adjust your goals for the next month.
Can I track multiple habit goals?
Absolutely! I’d suggest somewhere between 1 and 5 habits depending on how busy you expect to be and how much mental energy each habit takes. For example, flossing is very different from doing all your physical therapy exercises!The template is for 3 habits, but the eventual app will be more flexible.
